The mount for the electrodes is on water-cooled Cu contacts, whose surface, towards the C or graphite electrodes of an arc furnace, has an oxidn.-resistant, high-melting metal-based coating as electrode mount. The coating is 0.5-2 mm. thick and pref. is in the form of an apron-like sheet on the contact. It consists of ferritic chrome steel contng. 6-20% Cr and 1-5% Al; or Mo contng. ZrO2 and CaO; or an alloy of a transition metal (Ti, Nb, W) and C. These mounts are suitable for use with electrodes having a protective coating of, or contng., a metal. They prevent sintering of the contact of, or contng., a metal. They prevent sintering of the contact with the protective coating of the electrode, have good resistance to wear and fracture, and do not increase the electrical losses.
