A slide fastener having a separating end stop formed of male and female components secured to a pair of tapes carrying interengaging elements along the inner edges thereof and upper and lower opposed sliders movable to control engagement of the interengaging elements, the male and female components having outer surfaces contoured to contact side walls of the lower slider as the lower slider is moved along the components to pivot the components toward each other and stress the tapes. The stress on the tapes causes the outer surfaces of the components to bear against the side walls of the lower slider and move the lower slider along the components to a position covering the junctions of the components and the interengaging elements.
