The endless brush band passes over front and rear cylinders and is tensioned by a central spring loaded pressure plate. The driving front cylinder is connected to the large front wheels of the sweeper. The differential causes the band to move more slowly in a backward direction than the sweeper rolls forward. The brush tufts are angled forward for improved pick-up capacity. A counter rotating brush cylinder at the rear cleans the band brush and directs particles etc., into a collecting pan. The pressure plate is hinged and coupled to the sweeper's handle. Pushing brings the brush into floor contact, pulling lifts it clear.
