<p>1388424 Valves A M MOEN 26 May 1972 [27 May 1971] 25108/72 Heading F2V A mixing valve comprises a ported hollow valve member 428, Fig. 2, rotationally and axially movable by a handle (not shown) relative to a fixed sleeve 424 to provide a flow path between hot and cold water inlets 430, 432 and an outlet 434. The valve also comprises a housing (410), Fig. 1 (not shown), containing the sleeve 424 and having inlets (418, 420) and an outlet (422) aligned with the inlets and outlet of the sleeve. A two-part cylindrical seal 438 has portions which sealingly engage the housing, sleeve and valve member 428. 0-ring seals are also provided where shown. Passages 452, 454 in the valve 428 communicate with a pressure balancing chamber 456. A damper formed by cylinder 492 and a co-operating piston 504 provided with a diagonal bleed groove 510, retards movement of member 428 and thereby prevents water hammer. In alternative embodiments, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), the damper is relatively larger, and in one arrangement the diagonal groove is omitted and a bleed passage is provided through the bottom wall of the cylinder.</p> |
