In a papermaking machine with (a) a pulp feed, a web-forming sieve running over suction chests, the water passing through the sieve being recycled by a pump to the pulp feed, together with pulp concentrate or sludge added via a pump connected to he sieve water pipe line, and (b) a scrap web tank installed at one end of the sieve for the reception of reject web as well as edge strip separated from the sieve the further improvements whereby (c) a container for the reception of part of the sieve water is connected to the sieve water recycle pipe situated between the suction chests and the pump, and is also connected to the scrap web tank by a pipe incorporating a shut-off valve, (d) a pump is connected to the discharge pipe for emptying the scrap web tank and its delivery side is connected to the section of the sieve water pipe line leading to the pulp feed. Reject web material e.g. from web breakage or edge strips recovered from the sieve, can be recycled to the web-forming circuit without affecting the web thickness. The process can be adapted to continuous as well as batch paper making machines.
|
