摘要 <p>1439723 Blow moulding; non-nestable containers ILLINOIS TOOL WORKS Inc 21 Jan 1974 [22 Jan 1973] 02812/74 Addition to 1378774 which is P of Add to 1338680 Heading B5A A non-nestable container is formed from a nestable thermoplastic container having an open upper end defining a rim portion including stacking means which, when nested with other identical containers in a stack, alone spaces the containers axially and prevents jamming, by telescoping a nestable container at ambient temperature over a complementarily shaped mandrel and locking it thereon by engaging the stacking means with a complementary portion of the mandrel, below which the container is then heated so that no heat is transmitted to the rim which retains its shape, and blowmoulding the container by differential fluid pressure. As shown in Figs. 4, 6 the mandrel 105 comprises supports 106, 107, the former being mounted on rotary turret (30, Fig. 1, not shown), a plug portion 108, an insulator 109 and an electrical heater 110, with an annular space 114 between support 107 and plug 108. A projection (107a, Fig. 5, not shown) of support 107 engages the upper portion of stacking means of the rim portion 103 of container 100 when it is tamped on to the mandrel. The mandrel also comprises passages 116-124 to retain the container thereon by suction and to supply air for blow-moulding. The blow-mould 130 has a recess for skirt (103e) of rim portion 103 and also has a knock-out assembly 133 with a projection 134 to prevent sideways slipping of the container during blowing, which is therefore uniformly blown. The blow-mould (34, Fig. 1, not shown) may comprise a platen (60) and housing (62) containing a lower, unsplit mould section (64) with knock-out plunger (66) and four upper mould parts (68), platen (60) being reciprocable between a forward, mandrel. engaging position and a withdrawn, ejection position. The container may be of polystyrene, polyethylene or polyvinylchloride. The nestable container is preferably formed by injectionmoulding. The container may have differing rim and stacking portions (Figs. 8-13, not shown).</p>
