<p>1397425 Moulding fibre-reinforced pipes INDUSTRIELE ONDERNEMING WAVIN NV 26 April 1972 [29 April 1971] 19288/72 Heading B5A [Also in Division F2] In a method of making a flexible, composite tube comprising inner and outer layers 1, 2 of fibre reinforced thermosetting resin, which may be applied by winding, an intermediate layer 3, consisting of an inorganic filler with a thermosetting resin, is obtained by applying a mixture of filler particles and resin to the inner layer 1. As shown, the tube is formed on a rotating mandrel 4 and the inner layer 1, of polyester or epoxy resin impregnated glass fibre rovings, is wound thereon. In a first arrangement the inorganic particles, e.g. of sand or clay 50% with a diameter exceeding 0À5 mm. and preferably 80% in the range 0À5-3À0 mm., are delivered from a hopper 6 and shoot 7 above the mandrel. Thermosetting resin 9 is delivered under pressure through an atomizer to coat the particles 11 before they hit the layer 3. Either the particles or the resin are heated so that the layer 3 is formed at a temperature of at least 23‹ C. A band 5 of glass fibre fabric or non- woven material is wound about the layer 3 to compress the coated particles into contact with each other. The outer layer 2 of glass fibre rovings and resin is then wound on and the composite tube is subsequently cured by heating. In another arrangement the intermediate layer consists of a wound web of non-woven glass or plastics filamentary material coated with filler particles and resin.</p> |
