<p>The sides of the wheel rim are pressed with contoured grooves which locate the contoured bottom edges of the tyre walls. The tyre walls are provided with insert layers under the reinforcing wire loops which are contoured to fit the grooves. The edge of the groove is provided with a second, smaller groove to grip the edge of the tyre wall. The tyre is held securely on the wheel rim and is not readily torn off when the tyre is deflated while driving. The safety wheel rim is simply to construct and does not require any special tyre fitting tools. The rim can be formed as a sharp step over which the bead is pressed or a smooth and deeper contour.</p> |
