1491613 Acylonitrile and methacrylonitrile by ammoxidation STANDARD OIL CO 23 May 1975 [13 June 1974] 22598/75 Heading C2C [Also in Division B1] Acrylonitrile or methacrylonitrile are produced by the ammoxidation of propylene or isobutylene, respectively, by reaction with ammonia and a molecular oxygen-containing gas at 200-600‹ C. over an oxidic catalyst of empirical formula wherein: A is alkali metal, alkaline earth metal rare earth metal, Nb, Ta, Tl, P, As, Sb, W or mixtures thereof; B is Ni, Co, Mn, Zn, Cd, or mixtures thereof; a is 0-4; b and c are 0À01- 12; d is 0À01-6 and x is a number to satisfy valency requirements. The ammoxidation may be carried out in a fixed or fluidized bed at atmospheric pressure or sub- and super-atmospheric pressure. The examples describe the formation of acrylonitrile using a feed of propylene/ammonia/oxygen/nitrogen/steam in the mole ratio 1À8/2À2/3À6/2À4/6 and a contact time of 3 seconds. |
