<p>1387885 Knitting machines PICKFORD MILLS INC 10 May 1972 [11 May 1971] 21858/72 Heading D1C A rotary cylinder knitting machine comprises means, e.g. a pattern wheel 34, for moving a series of ferromagnetic control elements 31 in a closed path in synchronism with the needles 21, the elements being movable by selector means between inoperative and operative positions transversely of the path in which positions they are held by magnet means 74, 78, extending on either side of the path, the needles and elements moving through an operating station where selected elements move corresponding needles to a second position, restoring means being provided after the operating station to restore the selected elements to their initial position for reselection. As shown, pattern wheel 34 comprises a sleeve 46 mounted on bearings on bolt 42 and having a flange 54 with comb teeth 56 to engage between the needles 21. Needle raising jacks 33 between teeth 56 each have an extension 33a which engages by the lower end of a reed 31 whose upper ends 31b of reeds 31 are received in grooves 58 in an annular plate 60 rigidly secured to sleeve 46. In their inner positions, each reed 31 is held against the ring pole piece 68 of a ring magnet 74 and in their outer positions, reeds 31 against the ring pole piece 76 of an outer ring magnet 78. As the reed array 30 is rotated, a spring biassed bearing ball 84 restores the reeds to their inner positions. After resetting, the reeds approach the convex pole 90 of an electromagnet 92 which if the electromagnet receives a pulse attracts that reed which adheres to the pole 90 and is drawn away from the inner magnet and attracted to the outer magnet. Movement of a reed causes movement of the associated jack.</p> |
