<p>The drive axle of the tractor is fitted with a central shaft on which the two half shaft gear wheels are mounted. A special spring loaded brake is fitted between the gear wheels and coupling plates to the connecting shaft. The point of contact between the two parts of the brake is along an inclined surface for improved effect, and the brake is held apart by a spring. The brake is operated by a disc, grooved on its circumference and gripped by a slider coupled to a brake linkage. The driver merely presses the special brake lever to provide a rigid axle drive for heavy torques, such as for ploughing.</p> |
