<p>1420622 Wheel rims AVON RUBBER CO Ltd 1 May 1973 [2 May 1972 6 Nov 1972] 20397/72 and 51069/72 Heading B7C A wheel rim assembly comprises a wheel rim 1 having a well 8, an obstructor 11 for preventing the beads of a tyre entering the well in the event of tyre deflation and means for retaining the obstructor in the well. The obstructor may have the form of a band, the ends of which are releasably secured together by radially or tangentially disposed screws (see Figs. 1, 9a and. 10a). In the Fig. 6 assembly, screwthreaded member 47 releasably securing the ends of the band is also the body of an inflation valve, and when in the illustrated position prevents axial inward movement of a tyre bead seated adjacent flange 39. Radial outwardly directed projections (30, 31) (Fig. 4, not shown) axially inward of the tyre bead seats hinder axially inward movement of those beads when the tyre is deflated. The rim assembly is preferably used with a tyre having an aspect ratio of 60% or less. After mounting the tyre, in the conventional manner, on the rim the well is exposed, the obstructor is secured in the wall, and the tyre is then inflated. The obstructor may be such as to fully occupy the well.</p> |
