In a travelling band filter in which a filter web of glass fibre is wound progressively across a fluid duct from a supply roll to a take-up roll, the chambers 3, 6 housing the said rolls are provided each with a plurality of roll-insertion/removal doors 31 and with web-feeler members adapted to bear on the rolls. The feeler member 18 in the supply chamber 3 (Fig. 2 not shown) is biassed by a spring (28) to engage the roll 7 and operates switch (16), at a predetermined amount of web remaining on the roll, to give an alarm and stop the web take-up motor 9 (Fig. 4, not shown). Spring (28) and the pivot mounting of feeler 18 are such that, with front door 31 wide open, feeler 18 may be moved out until spring (28) urges it on to the door, away from the web. A similar arrangement applies to web hold down bar (36) (Figs. 5, 6, not shown) in take-up chamber 6. The glass fibre is wound on the rolls in a compressed state, but expands while in the duct, and bar (36) serves to recompress the web before it is wound on to the take-up roll. The chambers may have a front, rear and side door each, and the rolls are wound on spools (Fig. 3, not shown) whose ends engage slots 17. |
