1437011 Heavy-duty liquid detergent composition COLGATE-PALMOLIVE CO 8 June 1973 [23 June 1972] 27409/73 Heading C5D A heavy-duty liquid detergent which is clear, non-gelling and substantially devoid of phosphate and nitrogenous builders, comprises (A) a detergent mixture of non-ionic detergent and anionic detergent in a weight ratio of 15 : 1 to 1 : 1, the non-ionic detergent comprising 100 to 50% by wt. of C 10 -C 15 fatty alcohol ethoxylate containing 6 to 11 moles of ethylene oxide residues per mole, with the proviso that the number of moles of condensed ethylene oxide is from 2/5 to 8/11 of the average number of carbon atoms in the fatty alcohol, and from 0 to 50% by wt. of a C 14 -C 20 fatty alcohol ethoxylate containing 10 to 14 moles of ethylene oxide residues per mole, with the proviso that the number of moles of condensed ethylene oxide is from 7/10 to 1 times the number of carbon atoms in the fatty alcohol, and a sulphated ethoxylated C 10 -C 20 fatty alcohol containing 2 to 6 moles of condensed ethylene oxide per mole; (B) cufficient C 2 or C 3 monohydric alcohol, or C 2 or C 3 dihydric or trihydric alcohol, or C 1 -C 4 alkyl ether of such dihydric or trihydric alcohol, to solubilize the detergent mixture and (C) water; the liquid composition being substantially neutral in water, i.e. of pH 6À8 to 8À8. The composition preferably contains 25 to 75% wt. of the non-ionic detergent; 5 to 25% of the anionic detergent (alkali metal, NH 4 , alkylamino or alkanolamino salt); 0À5 to 5% wt. of optical brightener; 5 to 35% wt. or the solubilizer (B); and 5 to 35% wt. water. 0-2 to 3% of a calcium sequestrant such as citric, glyconic, ascorbic and lactic acids and salts thereof; nitrilotriacetic acid, ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid and salts thereof.
