A tyre with a continuous carcase stretching from one bead to the other, consisting of radial threads or cords, and a crown reinforcement which strengthens the tread, has only a slightly curved sectional profile when inflated and, bends the outer surface of the carcase upwards. Beneath the carcase there is arranged radially, at least one layer of oblique elastic threads or cords, which subtend with the radial threads or cords of the carcase, an angle of 30 degrees at most, and this layer extends obliquely over a width which is greater than the maximum width of the crown reinforcement, so that both of its ends lie beyond the edges of this reinforcement. The oblique orientation causes the threads or cords of the continuous layer to take up a lesser curve round the meridian than those of the carcase, when the tyre is inflated, and also causes a complementary weakening of the bending force of the crown reinforcement. The tension on the threads of the layer thus reduces the bending of the carcase equatorially and increases it in the shoulder zones. |
