The wall enclosing the fireplace consists at least partly of a double-skinned metal plate (1-4, 6-8). The space between the skins (20) has at the lower end an opening connected to the living room interior, and at the top to the chimney. There can be discharge openings in the top, sides and rear wall, and the chimney can be connected to an air discharge passage leading to a room higher up, typically comprising hollow bricks forming a floor.
