The rear sealing joint is for the shaft of a valve member with an elastic cover and forms part of this coating. When the valve is open the sealing joint engages a valve cover opposed to the valve seat. On the face of the metal part (1) of the valve me member (2) are three or more projections (5) which limit the travel and ensure contact of the joint with cover (7). The arrangement overcomes difficulties following the application of undue force to the valve during operation.
