发明名称 EXTRUSION APPARATUS
摘要 1453795 Extruding foamed thermoplastics FUJIKURA CABLE WORKS Ltd 11 Jan 1974 [17 Jan 1973] 01382/74 Heading B5A [Also in Divisions B1 C3 and H1] In the screw extrusion of a foamed thermoplastics material insulation sheath around a telecommunication cable conductor, e.g. a coaxial cable, the material is foamed by a blowing fluid delivered through an axially extending screw passage and injected into the material from one or more nozzles provided on the screw core or side flank of the flight in a low pressure screw region, the nozzle or nozzles having a ratio of outside diameter to their projection from the core, or flight, of 0À1 to 2À0, and an outside diameter of 3-10 mm. The ratio is preferably 0À5 to 1À0. The blowing agent may comprise a gas, or liquefied gas, such as nitrogen, argon, propane, or chlorofluorohydrocarbon and/or a viscosity reducing solvent, e.g. xylene, toluene, dodecylbenzene. The material may comprise polyethylene or polystyrene and may be fed to the extruder as a powder including chemical blowing agent, into which a solvent blowing agent is injected. High density polyethylene material may be fed to the extruder as a powder with organic solvent, with gas or liquefied gas blowing agent being injected. In foamed polyolefin, closed cells of 10 to 20 micron are produced. The material may incorporate a nucleating agent such as a complex of a higher fatty acid with metal, powdered zinc, fumed silica, organic blowing agent, or glass powder. In the Examples: (1) and (2) high density polyethylene incorporating azodicarbonamide blowing agent was foamed by injected xylene; (3) low density polyethylene was foamed by injected nitrogen. Various tests and test results are specified for the coatings applied in the examples. In the apparatus, Fig. 1, dispersion of the injected fluid may be enhanced by mixing pins 11 on the screw, located downstream of the nozzles 3. In the Fig. 3 modification (not shown) of the Fig. 1 embodiment, the screw core is flightless in the injection zone. The nozzles may project from the screw core along a path of opposite hand to that of the screw flight, Fig. 7 (not shown). The nozzles may project from the side of the screw flight, Fig. 2, in opposite directions along the flight on each side thereof. The nozzles are screwed into and welded to the core or flight, and the nozzle may project perpendicularly or at an inclination to the axial direction of the screw. The nozzle passage may also have a loose fitting stopper, Fig. 5 (not shown), to prevent ingress of the material. The fluid is injected at a maximum pressure of 200 to 300 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP>, e.g. at 50 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP>.
