5-Sulphamoyl-anthranilic acid derivs. of formula (I) and their salts are new: (where R is H or Me; R1 and R2 are H, 1-10C alkyl, cycloalkyl or cycloalkylalkyl gps. (opt. unsatd. and opt. interrupted by O or S), or phenyl or phenylalkyl gps. (opt. substd. by halogen, 1-10C alkyl or 1-10C alkoxy), or NR1R2 is a 3- to 8- membered heterocycle opt. contg. another O, N or S heteroatom; R3 is H or opt. unsatd. 1-4C alkyl, and R4 is H, 1-4C alkyl (opt. unsatd.), benzyl (opt. substd. by halogen, NH2, alkyl, alkylamino, dialkylamino or alkoxy), pyridylmethyl, furylmethyl or thienylmethyl, or NR3R4 is pyrrolidino, piperidino, hexamethylenimino, morpholino, thiomorpholino or N-alkylpiperazino; Z is COOH (opt. esterified by 1-10C aliphatic or araliphatic alcohol), CONH2 (opt. mono- or disubstd. by 1-8C aliphatic, araliphatic or aromatic gps. opt. interrupted or linked by O, N os S) or CN). Cpds. (I) are hypotensive agents esp. useful for treating human hypertonia.
