1527048 Measuring pore water pressure in soil B-A TORSTENSSON 28 May 1976 [30 May 1975] 22323/76 Heading G1S A water filled tube 1, Fig. 1, provided with a pore pressure nylon bodied probe 2 at its end, is driven into the ground and then connected to a measuring device 3, Fig. 3, which is lowered down the tube until a sleeve 9 fits on to a nipple 8, Fig. 2, of the probe. The measuring device 3 houses a pressure transducer 10 by means of which a pore pressure reading is taken on a meter 4 when the ground disturbance due to penetration has ceased and water passes through a sintered ceramic filter 6. After this measurement the device 3 is disconnected and a reading taken of the water pressure in the length of the tube. From these values, and known parameters including a calibration factor which may be used in a simple stated equation, the corrected pore water pressure may be calculated. |
