A folding ladder which can be quickly adapted for use as scaffolding, folds into a compact unit which requires minimum storage space. Two pairs of uprights (1) are linked by constant length rungs (2) on the lower part, the upper part, having no rungs, but brackets (3, 3') only. The opposite uprights of the two pairs are linked by pairs of articulated arms (5, 6). The ladder has two platforms which can be placed on the rungs of the two opposite pairs of uprights. The platforms are of different lengths, one (4) intended for use on the ladder proper, the other when the latter is folded for use as scaffolding. The brackets (3, 3') can also be used as platform supports if greater height is required.
