The general-purpose trailer comprises chassis supporting a platform of rails, and a towbar. There are one or more torsion-bar axles with independently sprung wheels on swing arms in front of the axle (4), while a hydraulic damper (422) is coupled between each arm (421) and the chassis (1). The hitch has a main brake with oleo-pneumatic cell actuating the lined shoes in each brake drum, and a lever-type parking brake with catch. A safety rope is attached to the towing vehicle, and if the trailer hitch breaks free this actuates the parking brake lever.
