<p>Included in the pad is an active prod. which is volatile at ambient temp. so that the vapour mixes with gas passing through the pad, the active prod. being adsorbed on the pad material in the form of micro-capsules. The material used as the skin of microcapsules should have physical characteristics such that the skin becomes inactive and/or is destroyed to release the active prod. in predetermined physical or chemical conditions corresp. to the conditions in which the mask is used, e.g. temp. of utilisation partic. temp. of exhaled breath of the user of the mask. The active prod. is pref. a germicide or bactericide to destroy germs etc. passing in either direction through the mask. Used e.g. as surgical and hospital masks, gas masks or industrial dust masks. The masks can be stored for long periods since the vapour is not released until the mask is worn.</p> |
