The craft may be inflatable or plastic, with float chambers. The paddle drive is supported on two clamps which fit over the sides of the craft. The drive shaft passes through a bracket on top of the clamp, and the crank shaft extends inwards to form an integral assembly. Foot rests are fitted to each crank. The crankshaft and the paddle drive shaft are locked together by means of a cotter pin resting in a slot. The pin is held in position by a coil spring inside the drive shaft hub. The cotter pin may be pulled out of its slot by the cord and toggle so disengaging the drive to either paddle.
