The operating knob for a domestic water tap has a metal body in the top of which is an element (9) with a low thermal conductivity. The head of a screw (6) is received in a recess in the top of the insert and passes through a second element (12) to be received in the top of an operating stem (5). The second element has a bore (16) to receive the top of stem (5). The head of the screw has a projection (17) over which snaps a cap for the body. The top of the body has three pressed down tabs forming slots which receive arms on the element (9).
