1444890 Coated dosage forms SHIN-ETSU CHEMICAL CO Ltd 20 June 1975 [24 June 1974 8 Aug 1974] 26239/75 Heading B2E [Also in Division A5] Solid pharmaceutical dosage forms (e.g. tablets) are coated by applying thereto an aqueous coating liquid having a viscosity of at least 3 centipoises at the coating temperature and containing a film-forming polymer dissolved or dispersed therein, and then drying the coating liquid. The coating is preferably effected by spraying the coating liquid onto the dosage forms while they are being tumbled in a conventional rotary pan coater, the spraying being alternated with drying by blowing of hot air. Suitable film-forming polyesters are methylcellulose, hydroxyethylcellulose, hydroxypropylcellulose, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, hydroxyethylcellulose, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinylpyrrolidone, and polymers or copolymers of sodium acrylate, acrylic acid or acrylic esters; emlusion polymers of vinyl acetate, acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, acrylic and methacrylic esters, esters, ethylene and maleic esters and anhydride; and also natural polymers such as gelatin, gum arabic and sodium alginate. The coating solution or dispersion may also contain colouring dyes, lakes or pigments; fillers, plasticisers, flavouring agents and sweeteners (e.g. titanium dioxide, talc, silica, polyethylene glycol, polypropylene glycol, glycerin, vanilla, orange oil, sugar, and saccharine). The tablets coated in the Examples contain one or both of Vitamins B 1 and C, or aspirin. |
