Split clamping sleeves for tube location - are expanded and compressed by tapered tools

A clamping head assembly which is included in a tube straightening machine clamps a tube end between an internal and external sleeve. Each clamp sleeve consists of two axial halves, so that they can move radially to each other. When the tube is placed between the inner and outer sleeve, a tapered mandrel expands the inner sleeve whilst a tappered ring compresses the external sleeve. The opposite axial forces which produce the radial clamping of the tube, are obtained from two hydraulically operated, concentric cylinders. To release the clamping force, the cylinder chambers are pressurised.
