Crankshaft and camshaft steels - include titanium as alloying element to improve mechanical properties

The use of titanium in the mfr. of crankshafts and camshafts for air-cooled and water-cooled Otto and diesel engines. The novelty is that Ti is added to the steel employed in the mfr. of the crankshafts and the camshafts (but the amt. of Ti is not stated). The use of Ti as an alloying element in the steel increases the hardness, fatigue properties and the elasticity of the steel. By using titanium the crankshafts and camshafts can be used at up to 5400 r.p.m. without danger of cracking or fracture.
