<p>A process for transforming an extract of lipids into fatty amides comprises a netural aq. hydrolysis, then a treatment with ammonia and finally a sepn. of the fatty amides by recrystallisation. The "extract of lipids" is a part of a culture of microorganisms growing on a hydrocarbon substrate, which has been sepd. from the microorganisms by extraction or solvent. The extract, representing about 10% of the dry culture consists of carboxylic acids, residual hydrocarbon and microorganisms, mineral salts, nutrient media, lipids, phopholipids, carotenoids and steroids. The fatty amides can be used for example to prepare fatty acids, amines, alcohols and also heterocyclic cpds. The above process provides a means of recovering the lipids.</p> |
