The process comprises maintaining the bath of Al-salt slag in a liq. state by maintaining the heat supply to the remelting furnace, and for a period until the impurities and Al have settled out, and sepg. the sediment from the salt or vice versa. Pref. the bath of Al-salt slag is transferred from the remelting furnace to a sedimentation vessel, which is heated separately, and in which the Al-salt is maintained in the melting state until sedimentation has occurred.
