1464269 Heat exchangers HUSQVARNA AB 17 Dec 1974 [18 Dec 1973] 54354/74 Headings F4H and F4S In a space heating and ventilating arrangement wherein the condenser 3 of a conventional refrigerating system heats fresh air flowing into the space whilst the evaporator 1 of the system absorbs heat from the relatively warm air exhausting from the space, the evaporator is immersed in a heat transfer liquid contained in a rotating drum 16 the wall of which is cooled by the liquid, and the exhausting space air flows over the cold outer surface of the drum (e.g. in a duct 26). Condensate from the exhausting air freezes on the drum wall, and in the coolest zone (i.e. adjacent the outlet from the air duct 26), the cooling capacity of the drum wall may be increased by internal pockets 29 which become filled with heat transfer liquid as the drum rotates. These pockets empty as the drum wall moves into a relatively warmer zone (i.e. adjacent to the air inlet of the duct 26) where the ice begins to melt and is subsequently scraped from the drum surface by a device 30. A sensor 28 detects any undue build-up of ice and causes the drum speed to be adjusted automatically so as to ensure complete de-icing of the drum wall. |
