<p>The gland comprises a conventional base piece which screws into the apparatus wall, and a nut which comprises the sealing and locating compression ring. This ring comprises an inner ring of elastic insulating material with tapered ends and longitudinal slits alternately starting from one end and the other. The bore of the ring has circumferential grooves for gripping the cable. The whole ring is covered with a sealing sheath. As the nut is tightened against the washer a force is applied to the compression ring through the tapered ends. The inner surface grips the cable whilst the covering fills the spaces to give the seal.</p> |
