A fire preventative control unit system is esp. for use in filters or similar devices used in mining or tunnelling operations. It comprises a float type valve incorporated into a foamed medium container or storage reservoir. This float valve is connected to the control valve in such a way that if the foamed medium drops in level, and the floating valve sinks, a shut off valve operates to cut off the water flow. The ventilator flow of the system is also turned off by means of the float valve.
