A dry fire-extinguishing powder contains a bitartrate. This bitartrate at least partially is composed of crude tartar and a fungicide. The fungicide, which is finely-ground, acts both as an effective fire-extinguisher and as a mildew -preventing agent. The compsn. is cheap and uses readily-available materials. Suitable fungicides include Cu and S compounds, chlorinated phenols and their salts, phenyl phenates, dithiocarbonates, salicylates, benzoic acid/salts etc. They are pref. used in amts. of 0.01-0.5 wt. % and enable the compsn. to be kept for >2 years. In an example, a compsn. contained 97.0 wt. % crude tartar, 2.7 wt. % lubricant and hydrophobiciser and 0.3 wt. % Na benzoate.
|
