Fluidised bed unit with adjustable solids offtake - in the form of telescopic sliding tube

The wall of the fluidised bed unit carries an off-take nozzle within which is a sliding tube which can move axially and so determine the bed height. This sliding tube also moves within the fixed solids offtake duct which is external to the fluidised bed. Used in systems for handling, reacting or drying solids, in which it is advantageous to vary the bed height according to the characteristics of the material being processed. Ability to vary the bed height enables optimum operation to be obtd. with a variety of solids, and the use of an adjustable solids offtake which has no internal restriction in it avoids any possibility of blockage.
