The IC engine valve rocker (4) with spring mounting is carried on a spherical bearing (13/14) located on the cylinder-head (1) by a spindle (17) and platform (16), movable parallel to the valve centreline by means of a self-locking thread (18). A spring (12) between the mounting platform (16) and a collar (13a) at the base of the spherical bearing keeps the rocker permanently in contact with both the cam (3) and the top of the valve stem (9). Between platform and collar, inside the spring, there is a noise-absorbing washer into which the rocker bearing seats when the cam starts the valve opening phase. Using a hexagon (23) on the rocker bearing spindle (17) the height of the platform (16) is adjusted to ensure the correct valve opening whilst leaving a clearance between bearing collar (13a) and washer for thermal expansion.
