<p>A bolt clamping force measuring device is used to determine the load exerted by the bolt. It provides a simple means to ensure that the load is neither too small nor too great. The device consists of a washer which is placed under the head of the bolt. The washer is made of elastic material. It is divided into sectors (1,2). Some of the sectors (1) are plane and the others (2) are curved. The outer diameter (3) of the curved sectors (2) are nearer the centre of the bolt than the outer diameter (4) of the plane sectors (1). When the clamping load is applied, the curved sectors (2) are deformed. The displacement of the outer diameter (3) of the curved sectors (2) is a measure of the clamping load. Washers of various thickness and materials are made to obtain various loads.</p> |
