Fuel oil control valve - uses float chamber to maintain constant flow rate and has highly nonlinear inlet valve

An inlet duct (10) leads the fuel through a filter (11) to a chamber containing a float (20) via a valve opening (16). This valve opening is controlled by the float (20) position via a spring link (23) and a spring pin (14) and the valve seating is of a relatively soft material. The valve closes progressively when the float rises, but at a particular point a magnet (26) on the outer chamber (10) reacts with another (28) on the float to produce a sharp increase in valve closing force for only a small increase in the liquid level in the chamber. The outlet duct (35) is taken via a perforated disc in the bottom of the chamber.
