A teaching machine for use in schools uses a pencil activated contact coupled with a punched card to activate a decoding circuit to indicate whether or not the response is correct or not. The input unit (I) generates signals to a coding station (IIa) coupled to a decoding station (IIb). The logic unit also includes a comparator stage (IIc) controlled by a central unit (III) coupled to information stages (IV). The use of a pencil enables a number of relays to be actuated and the states compared with a predetermined condition. The comparator stage enables the accuracy of the decision to be monitored.
