1392259 Hulling and debittering soya beans HOLTZ & WILLEMSEN GmbH 12 Feb 1973 [11 Feb 1972] 6867/73 Heading A2Q [Also in Division F4] An apparatus for the continuous dehulling or debittering of soya beans by a mixed medium of air and steam comprises a chamber 1 having a series of nozzles 4.1-4.n on an elongate nozzle disposed along the bottom thereof for introducing upward streams of the medium into the chamber 1 to one side of a guiding shield 3 which extends between a feeding opening at one end of the chamber 1 and a discharge opening at the other end of the chamber and divides the chamber into two parts intermediate the top and bottom of the chamber 1. A continuous helical partition 12.1- 12.n, 13.1-13.n surrounds the guiding shield 3 to form a helical path for the soya beans each turn of the path incorporating one or more of the nozzles of the series of nozzles or a portion of the elongate nozzle. As shown the air and steam are led out of the chamber through ports 8 where they may pass to a separator followed by a blower and then on to a conditioning station before being led back to the chamber (Fig 6, not shown). The chamber may be formed of two end portions and one or more intermediate portions connected together. Interchangeable helical partitions may be provided. In a modification the final plurality of turns of the path may each be provided with a valved discharge opening, the nozzles in the section each being provided with a cut-off valve (Fig 3, 4, not shown). |
