1488326 Sterilizing bags S J SCHUSTER 16 Jan 1976 [17 Jan 1975 25 Nov 1975] 01761/76 Heading B8K A bag for use in sterilizing its contents comprises a container 10 formed of plastics sheet 12 so as to have a continuous face 12b and a face 12a which includes overlapping longitudinal margins 24, 26 joined by a plurality of spaced seals 32 defining between them passages 33 for sterilizing vapour, and a membrane 14 which is highly permeable to sterilizing vapour and is bonded to the container by longitudinal seals 34, 36 so as to cover the margins 24, 26. One end 28 of the bag is open and the other 30 is closed by a transverse seal 38 which also unites the membrane and the container. The seals are preferably heat seals and the membrane is preferably of paper and may have a polyethylene inner coating. The container may be of high density polyethylene and/or polypropylene, nylon, or polybutylene, and may have two plies the marginal edges of which are staggered to maintain the bag thickness uniform. The edges of the sheet may be shaped to provide tabs 72, 74, Fig. 12, joined by heat seals 76 and providing passages 78. The overlapping margins may be joined by a continuous longitudinal seal extending from the closed end of the bag along a portion of its length. Various patterns of heat seals are disclosed and the membrane may be attached to the container at all the heat seals. |
