<p>The clamping ring for vehicle wheel testing machines is constructed in two parts. The ring is in two halves (3, 4) each having welded flanges (7, 10) by which they may be coupled together and tightened around the rim of the wheel under test. Each half-ring has external radial arms (13, 14) formed from angled plates. Stacked laminations of magnetic material (16) are clamped between the plates to form a magnetic armature for each hafl-ring. The armatures are suspended over their respective electro-magnet coils so that when these are excited, the clamping ring transmits the oscillations to the wheel to produce flexural moments as required by the test procedure. The ring has elastic properties so that the loading on the rim is rotationally symmetrical.</p> |
