Burner igniter electrode wire - is joined to supply lead inside ceramic sleeve by passing heating current to fuse wire ends together

The electrode, for a burner, is joined to its supply lead (1) whilst inside the ceramic insulating sleeve (3) that encloses the joint. After joining, the electrode (2) and the lead are retained axially be deforming part (6) of the electrode near the end of the sleeve (e.g. by pinching). The supply lead has a shoulder (5) that butts against one end of the sleeve. The inner ends of both the lead and the electrode are pointed so that when current is passed through the tips melt easily and fuse together thereby joining lead and electrode.
