1493651 Bearings TRICO PRODUCTS CORP 26 March 1975 [29 March 1974] 12593/75 Heading F2A A one-piece plastics bearing sleeve 18 comprises coaxial inner and outer sleeves 24, 26, the inner sleeve 24 having slots 28 extending from at least one end to form a plurality of circumferentially-spaced elongate flexible segments the segments being supported over substantially their entire length by radial webs 38 connected to the outer sleeve 26, which itself is flexible in the radial direction. Fig. 2 shows an embodiment where the sleeve has an integral support member 25, carries with an interference fit a shaft 16 and forms part of a windscreen wiper assembly, Fig. 1 (not shown). The sleeves 24, 26 and webs 38 define spaces which are filled with lubricant, e.g. grease, are connected to the bearing surfaces via the slots 28, and are sealed at the open end by a washer 34 of, for example, foam rubber. A figure of eight is mentioned for the minimum ratio of the length of the inner sleeve to its internal radius. |
