A method of surface finishing the edges of countersunk oil holes in engine crank rods, uses a rotating tool (1) which can be rotated by e.g. a pneumatic motor carrying a spike (2) which is eccentrically mounted. This spike is pushed through a strip of emery cloth or lapping material (8). The spike is then pushed into the oil hole (3) and its eccentric rotation ensures that the countersunk edge is finished. The spike is enclosed by a rubber cushion (6) which supports the cloth and holds it in contact during rotation. The cloth can be unwound and wound from rollers (9, 10) so that a fresh portion can be used for each hole.
|
