<p>Gas turbine engine for vehicles has a compressor (10) connected to the turbine (11) by an infinitely variable gearing (22) whose ratio may be suited to varying engine performance requirements. The connection between the compressor shaft (14) and the turbine shaft (15) may include an epicyclic gearing (18) having two inputs (16, 21) connected to the respective shafts and a single output, the variable gearing being connected between one of the shafts and one of the inputs. The output may be connected to a pref. reversible reduction gearing (19). The engine rotors may be arranged side by side on vertical axes, the epicyclic and variable gearings being arranged there below and connected to the reduction gearing by a bevel drive.</p> |
