The diode support plate is cut in the form of a ring, and has two fixing holes for mounting onto the outside of the alternator. The centre of each plate has a number of holes to house the diode socket. There are a number of rectangular perforations in the support plate to allow colling air to circulate. The socket is made from conductive material and is soldered to the support plate. Each socket is in contact with the terminals of the diode which is then coated with silicone varnish to allow only the electrode to be exposed. The electrode is connected by soldered wires to the alternator.
