<p>Automatic machine for applying paste to workpieces which will be brazed, using a bed along which a slide can be driven horizontally (X direction). On slide is a second slide moving the workpiece vertically (Y direction); and directions (X, Y) form a plane at 90 degrees to the brazed seams required. A carrier is used to mount at least one, and pref. four pistols, the carrier being driven in direction (Z) at 90 degrees to plane (X, Y) adn the pistols being opened and closed to apply the paste. Each pistol is pref. fitted with a reservoir from which paste travels down a tube to a nozzle opened or closed by a needle valve actuated by the piston rod of a compressed air cylinder. Used e.g. for the brazing of grids used to locate fuel elements in the core of a pressurised water nuclear reactor. The paste is accurately applied and only sufficient of the costly paste, contg. e.g. Ag, Cd, Cu, is used.</p> |
