The electrically-assisted pedal cycle has an electric motor with battery and generator. The latter is constituted by a series of magnets (21) along the rim of one of the wheels (12) and a stator (22, 23) mounted near the rim, whose winding can be connected to the battery via a hand-operated normally open switch and a rectifier. On closing the switch when the wheel is turning, the battery is thus recharged and at the same time the wheel is braked by the regenerative effect. The switch can be part of the brake mechanism, the contacts closing when the brake control starts to move but before any hard application of the friction brake occurs.
|
