The drive shaft is coupled to the variable speed motor through the intermediate shaft so that the rolling speeds may be synchronised. The shaft is fitted with three variable diameter belt pulleys. The first drive allows longitudinal movement of the cutters. The second drive carries the spindle and allows the tubular element to slide along it and the third drive rotates the individual cutters. The cutters are mounted on a trolley which is fitted with slides at each end. The slides travel along guide rails parallel to the longitudinal axis of the machine.
